New Email & Things Broken

27 Oct 2008 In: web, internet, blogs

My single domain emails have been thick with spam for a long time. Last week the morning downloads got bumped up by 100 easily on two different accounts. I lost patience and decided it was long overdue to change to Google hosted email. I change the MX settings on my domains and let Google filter out the spam. Does it work? Hell yes! I went from 350 emails (one acct.) down to 10 emails at my morning email check. That’s a HUGE difference. Now, I’m in the process of changing my other domains over.

I’m back to attempt keeping some updates going here. I still haven’t moved the most current database here yet. I was trying to fix a few things on this site over the weekend and, either I failed to figure it out, or what I broke on this site a while back (before I rebuilt the site on a new server) is more broken than I thought.

This was the first database I actually backedup and moved to a new server, with Paul’s assistance/ direction. However, by the time it was completed it had happened too quickly for me to understand what Paul was having me do. I think that’s when he changed his philosophy about helping me by saying I should learn to do for myself. Of course, that’s easier said than done when he’s been at it a very long time including, working inside an IT environment. I’m not totally lost but, switching from frontend to backend has not been an easy transition, especially when I don’t have that much time to work on it. Anyway, this is one site that needs its database updated.

Pain

18 Sep 2008 In: personal

I’ve had a sharp pain slightly above and behind my right ear all fricking day long. I took a nap, aspirins too, ate dinner, and it still hurts. I tried to relax and read before napping. After the nap I tried something I thought would be easy but, left me frustrated. Now, it’s time for bed. I hope my head feels better tomorrow!

This is good. Having lived through all the personal and scholarly debates regarding ancient Egyptians ancestry, some scientific evidence would be interesting to see. I would like to see that evidence compared the other populations around the continent. If that ancient culture spread toward the Mediterranean, why would it not spread south. African scholars have said that for years.

“King Tut Exhibit Prompts Debate on His Skin Color”:

The King Tut exhibition has drawn millions. But some African-American scholars believe the exhibition makes King Tut look too white. The debate over King Tut’s race led the Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia, where the show is currently on display, to sponsor a conference on the subject.

Home internet

6 Jun 2008 In: web, internet, blogs

Long day about to end here. I think (and hope) that I finall got my internet access working properly. A tech came out this morning and put in a new direct line into my bedroom. He was unexpectedly professional and nice. He gave me his phone number to call him direct if I have more problems.

I needed to buy a new router today as well. I got it hooked up to my desktop and then, wireless working too. However, as long as I’m here, using the LAN works with a faster connection than wirelessly. Although my printers are not wireless, my router has that capability.

I’ve also spent time today searching through code although, I may not know it well, I’m learning “poco a poco.”

I have a new bunch of images to download off my camera but, I probably will do it tomorrow at the tech meeting.

Craig Newmark in Miami

The was the “ad:tech” conference on Miami Beach this week. A friend had an extra ticket with a 50% discount. I was out with Paul and his roommate for dinner last night and, eating at next table was Craig Newmark and three other men. Paul and I left a note for him inviting him to NextMiami tonight, if he’s still in town.
