Another day in the life…

  • @chrismessina writing also improves by reading good writing. I wish today’s students would read more non-internet texts; poor writing skills #
  • @glass my niece says the same. I never used it much nor do I use Illustrator much. #
  • @sass I’d love to check it out if possible in near future. #

Pogue’s Posts: Sony PRS-700: The Other e-Reader

// February 26th, 2009 // No Comments » // Blog

One of the things that REALLY bothers me about everything going digital is the UNintuitive was reading on a computer is! Aside from the difficulty of screen glare and small text that cannot be resized is that lack of the ability to flip to any page at any time to make reference to some thought one may have while reading.

When I read I often have ideas pop into my head about related topics that may also be included in the book but, doing a search to find it is painstaking, if one has the ability to do so. And, what happens if one is doing research and needs several books that need to be searched in that similar manner? Gawd, impossible!

When is a device going to be invented or designed that will allow for such a reading style or technique?!?

Pogue’s Posts: Sony PRS-700: The Other e-Reader: “The Kindle may have scored all the press this week, but it’s not the only e-book reader. David Pogue take a look at Sony’s Reader, the PRS-700.”

Meeting New People

// February 25th, 2009 // No Comments » // Blog

Oh, I forgot to mention something. Guess who I met on Sunday? Dave692. The guy that used to (maybe still does) have that little nickname changer thing at the bottom of an LJ (home) page. I told him I thought it was a joke of some kind and that he wasn’t a real person. He assured me he was real but, that he was the butt of some jokes by his former co-workers and that was the reason it was there. He did a presentation with Chris Messina at BarCampMiami. Okay, time to ready for work today. More later…

BarCampMiami 2009

// February 23rd, 2009 // No Comments » // Blog

BarCampMiami 2009 was yesterday. I went last year and met a ton of interesting web people. This year I was able to reconnect (with those from other states and countries). Probably the funniest thing that happened was when I went up to the guy called, Dave692, told him I thought his nickname was a joke on LiveJournal until about 9 months ago or so when I learned he was a real person. He said that his former co-workers at LiveJournal put that up there because they used to joke with him all the time. He’s a nice guy but very big and tall (which you can never tell just looking at a head shot). He was there with FactoryJoe (Chris Messina) who works for OAuth and one of the really smart web guys out there. He put forth the idea of using hashtags (#) on Twitter.
