Moving slow, cooking fast!

// April 28th, 2008 // No Comments » // Blog

Slowly by slowly I’m getting moved in. I brought a carload of boxes home today when I paid my storge rental. I need to get out of there FAST. I have two units but, need to get it down to one at the very least! I gathered up boxes of food (can goods and sealed boxes and jars of sauces type stuff). I had to pull all the food off the selves and rearrange it to make it all fit. I have pastas and, several types of rices and, soups and, sauces, and now I can cook!

I also brought home more pots and pans. I had to rearrange my pots and pans to make them all fit. And to think, I was thinking about buying a new pan the other day. I did buy a new omelette pan though. I was actually looking at a Bundt cake pan. I want to make my mother’s “sour cream coffee cake” that is SOOOOOO good it has haunted me since her death back in the 70s. My mother’s apple pies were so good that when we got invited out for summer BBQ’s my mother was told to “bring an apple pie or, stay home.” Of course, it was all in fun but, that’s how good they were. I can make one just about as good but, of course, we have our differences.

I made some walnut brownies tonight and just ate one still warm from the oven. *yummy* Next on the list, key lime pie! I have all the ingredients.

Art and (Wo)man at Yale

// April 25th, 2008 // No Comments » // Blog

Although I am not teaching upper level students, Ihave consulted with a few of my former students many of whom need consultations to help them flesh out their ideas, get reactions from a viewer with a bit more visual knowledge, and learn to make changes and adapt. Having feedback one can trust is important but, I’m always telling students to be authentic, be who they are, not some pretend person. That’s where the real story of the art is found, in their own experiences and learning.

Art and (Wo)man at Yale:

“Why are undergraduate art students like Aliza Shvarts being trained as mini-Duchamps, resulting in cutting-edge shock art laced with a confused earnestness? It’s time to go back to the basics.”
