When I was in high school I was very much in the closet to most people with the exception of one person with whom I’m still friends. None of the guys I hung out with was gay even though one of them gave me second thoughts with his closeness to me. He had a girlfriend but, so did I. Nothing transpired but, I wanted to and called him on it. He declined and we remained friends until his death about 5 yrs. ago.
Anyway, a high school with almost the same name as my old high school is in the news and, it’s another queer athlete. I remember being in that old lockerroom. The guy whose locker was across from me, though always quiet and softspoken, had me staring at him more than a few times. Raging hormones they say. ;-)
A four-year starter for the Banning High Broncos when the team’s starting quarterback was ruled academically ineligible, Anthony, a 6-foot, 210-pound fullback, volunteered to take his place.
