This semester is turning out to be an intense one. Those three classes back-to-back kick my narrow behind today. I talked/ instructed almost constantly from 11 am to 8:50 pm. I have 10 min. between class #1 and class #2 and, 70 min. between class #2 and class #3. Of course, that’s assuming I actually have the time. Today, I had to get food and eat it walking back to begin class #2 and run back and forth to my office to take bits of food. I grabbed a small sandwich between #2 and #3 in about 25 min., walking and eating at the same time.
My throat is sore from talking, repeating myself actually, over and over and over. Literally.
And then, some students don’t even have their supplies into the 3rd week of classes. I keep stressing that they need to get with it and purchase materials. I will not slow down for them. We have too much course material to cover. I told students where to buy stuff in Miami. It’s been 6 days including, a weekend, and they made no efforts to get it relying on things to be shippped but, chemicals are hazardous materials and cannot be shipped.
Some students, mostly the older students, are prepared, working well even with mistakes, excited, and enthuiastic. Other students are sitting around chatting, wasting time, slacking. Oh well…
I even have one student from about 5 yrs. ago when I was teaching at a community college. He was a pretty good student then. Anyway, onward with the new semester schedule…
